Cops Allegedly Assault Late Nelson Mandela's Grandson Mayibuye Mandela

- Cops allegedly assaulted late former president Nelson Mandela's great-grandson Mayibuye Mandela a few days ago

- Mayibuye took to social media and shared snaps of his bruised face, adding that he is going to sue the police who allegedly beat him up

An agitated Mayibuye Mandela has accused Mzansi police of brutally assaulting him this past weekend in the Eastern Cape.

Late former president Nelson Mandela's great-grandson has shared that he was coming from Mqhekezweni Great Place heritage site - where the former president grew up- when the incident happened on 8 May.

Young Mandela said he was with his friends when cops pulled them over and asked to search his car but was subjected to police brutality

Mayibuye took to Facebook and posted snaps of his bruised face following the unfortunate incident. He captioned his post:

"I am suing SAPS, that department of Bheki Cele, court date will be announced. Tomorrow I will be meeting my Dr and my legal team for the final steps."

When Facebook user Ayandah Mehlemamba Mngoonie asked him what happened, the young politician said:

"They asked to search the car and we allowed them. They asked me uba ndilale ngesisu kwi gravel road kwabe kunetha andavuma ndathi ndizogcola hyke bandikhaba (They told me to lay on my stomach on the gravel road when it was raining. I refused and said I’d get dirty, and they kicked me)."

According to The South African, Mayibuye said police brutality is not allowed in Mzansi. The publication reports that some of the people who were with Mayibuye were "kicked in the head", and he personally sustained cuts above his left eye.

In other news, Briefly News reported that the names of the Durban helicopter crash victims have been released by police. Pilot Derek Fitzgerald (24) and student pilot Richard Morgan passed away when the helicopter they were travelling in crashed in Durban last week.

Both the deceased are from Durban and the chopper they were using reportedly belonged to the Starlite Aviation Group. The helicopter crashed into the Umgeni River near the N2 last Monday morning.

East Coast Radio reported that both Fitzgerald and Morgan had to be extricated from the helicopter's wreckage. It was found submerged in the water. In other news, Briefly News recently reported that the remains of Lindani Myeni arrived in SA on Sunday. The Durban rugby player was shot and killed by Honolulu police.

The widow of Myeni has filed a wrongful death lawsuit. The father of two died earlier this month after he was gunned down by police who responded to a “burglary in progress” call.
