Sekhukhune United Wins PSL/Polokwane City Case, Awarded Full 3 Points

- Limpopo side Sekhukhune United, who campaign in the National First Division, have been awarded full three points for their PSL case involving Polokwane City

- Sekhukhune are now sitting at the top of the NFD log table heading to the final matches this coming weekend

- Representing Sekhukhune, Mandla Tshabalala has expressed delight after winning the case against the PSL and City

South African National First Division side Sekhukhune United have emerged as victors in their case involving Polokwane City. The Limpopo-based club has since been awarded three points as the case was heard by the PSL’s disciplinary committee (DC).

Also known as Babina Noko, Sekhukhune were awarded the three full points and are now sitting at the top of the GladAfrica Championship table with 50 points, which is equal to Royal AM.

Sekhukhune were awarded the match 3-0, which puts them on a better goal-difference to drop Durban-based Royal AM to second on the log ahead of the final round of matches this coming Sunday.

According to DailySun, chairman Hilton Epstein SC replaced the initial DC judgment, which only docked City three points. Epstein SC said:

"It is declared that the respondent (City) forfeited the match (which was won 1-0) to the appellant (Sekhukhune) with a score line of 3-0. A fine is imposed of R100 000, suspended for two years on condition that the respondent is not found guilty during the period of suspension...

"The respondent is ordered to pay the costs of the arbitrator, the arbitrator's costs, the league's costs (if any), and the costs of the appellant."

For the NFD side, Mandla Tshabalala, is a senior counsel who represented Sekhukhune. He said they were happy with the ruling:

"The DC case procedure was fine, but the ruling was not fair. The most important thing was that the game was played. It was not on their own doing that five U-23 players were not in the squad list."

Sekhukhune United appealed the PSL DC's judgment against Rise and Shine, who were docked three points for having not abided by the rules and didn’t have five U-23 players in their squad list before their match earlier this year when they lost 1-0 to the Limpopo outfit.

City were docked three points but United wanted the points to be awarded to them, according to the NSL rules.

Meanwhile, the Sowetan reports that barely three days after Royal AM thought they had one foot in the DStv Premiership, Royal may have to put the champagne on ice as Sekhukhune are now the favourites to clinch automatic promotion.

In other sports stories, Briefly News ran a report that Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi said they were unfortunate to lose the match against Al Ahly because his side was the better team.
