The celebrated correspondent made the announcement on-air to the shock of most of her avid viewers.

In what she termed as “some personal news,” the TV personality, who has been missing in action for a couple of weeks, stated that she is undergoing treatment.

She started off the programme with a vote of thanks to her co-workers who held the fort while she was away for a month.

“I want to thank the whole team for holding down the fort for me for the past four weeks which have been a bit of a rollercoaster for me. During that time, like millions of women around the world, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer,” she said.

Amanpour said her reveal was a "shout out to early diagnosis" and urged women to educate themselves on the disease, get screened, and listen to their bodies.
