A 16-year-old girl from Victoria West in the Northern Cape lost her life on 12 September 2026. Lee Jandra Sabbat, affectionately known as "Meitjie," was a Grade 10 learner who had been sent by her grandmother to a nearby shop shortly before the crash.

When the grandmother heard a loud bang, she ran outside and found Lee Jandra badly injured. A Toyota Yaris slammed into a wall, trapping her between the vehicle and the structure. The teenager was still alive at that point, but was later declared dead at the scene.

The 22-year-old driver and four other passengers in the vehicle were transported to hospital for treatment. One of those passengers, a 39-year-old man, later succumbed to his injuries. According to Die Son, police have opened a case of culpable homicide and are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. The Facebook page Munoshamisa shared news of her death, drawing an outpouring of grief from people across South Africa who were moved by the story of a young life lost far too soon.
