“Such a Young Soul”: Strand Secondary School Mourns Learner Tapiwa in Emotional Tribute Post

Strand Secondary School in Strand, Western Cape, shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook on 18 August 2026, mourning the passing of one of its learners, Tapiwa.

The school posted a memorial card addressed to its community, describing Tapiwa as far more than a student. The message read that he was a friend, a brother and a deeply loved part of the school family whose kindness, smile and spirit would never be forgotten.

The tribute carried the biblical verse Matthew 25:23:

"Well done, good and faithful servant," and closed with the words: "You will always shine in our hearts."

Strand Secondary School, which carries the motto *Opvoeding Verhef* (Education Elevates), did not publicly share details of how Tapiwa died, leaving many in the comments section asking what had happened to the young boy.

The post by Strand Secondary School drew an outpouring of grief from parents, community members and people who had never met him, all united by the shock of losing someone so young.
