A Cape Town school came together to honour one of their own. Strandfontein Secondary School held a memorial assembly for learner Liyanda Ciko on 6 July 2026. Learners, staff and Liyanda's family filled the school hall to pay their respects.

The footage, posted on TikTok by @candice.japhta, captured the weight of the occasion. A student performed a worship song that left the room visibly shaken, her voice carrying a rawness that reached far beyond the school walls. A school governing body representative addressed the gathering, reflecting on the kind of person Liyanda was:

"This room echoes the impact that she had made on every single person in this room, whether it be a teacher, whether it be a principal, whether it be a class teacher, a subject teacher. She had made an impact."
