5 Mzansi celebs that made the top of Google Trends this year

South Africa had a busy year, celebrity news-wise. From Sbhale Mpisane to HHP and Lerato Sengadi, many of our locals made the top of Google Trends for South Africa in 2018.

Google recently announced the top 10 trending topics of the year that has been, and some of our favourite celebs made the top.

The searches included celebs, politicians and news, but we're focusing only on the celebs in this article.

Briefly.co.za compiled a list of the 5 South African celebs that made the top, and here they are, in no particular order:

1. Sbahle Mpisane

TV personality Sbahle Mpisane made the news when she was in a serious car accident. She was rushed to Netcare St Augustines Hospital on 8 August.

The fitness fundi was in a critical condition when she was rushed to hospital after crashing into a pole. After 3 months, she was released from hospital and just a week ago, she posted a throw-back video to remind fans that she is back and ready to kill it

2. Sophie Ndaba

One of South Africa's most beloved actresses, Sophie Ndaba, had the country worried after her weight loss became obvious and also made her look unhealthy.

She earlier revealed she was battling with diabetes and clearly went through a hectic time.

Sophie also had to endure fake reports on her alleged death. Fans of the lovely actress were really worried about her. However, she insists that she's fine and doing alright.

3. Mlindo the Vocalist

The 'new guy on the block' came onto the music scene with a bang, quickly growing in popularity. He worked with DJ Maphorisa and skyrocketed into fame from there. Mlindo was one of the top trending personalities of the year, according to a report by ZAlebs.

His debut album, Emakhaya, was released in September and just 3 months later, it has gone gold. It's a well-deserved win for Mlindo, whose music is greatly appreciated by many in Mzansi.

4 & 5. HHP and Lerato Sengadi

It was a tragic day in South Africa when fans learned that music legend HHP passed away at just 38.

The musician’s wife and publicist, Lerato Sengadi, has since come under fire from his family, as they refused to acknowledge her as his wife. She later turned to court and won as she was legally acknowledged her as HHP's wife.

The memorial service for HHP took place at Bassline in Johannesburg. In a heart-breaking speech, Lerato Sengadi paid tribute to her fiancé and his music. She hopes to honour the late rapper by protecting his legacy.
