Cameron Waldeck-Cooks: Boyfriend Allegedly Monitored Her Social Media Accounts

New details have emerged in the investigation into the death of 17-year-old St Stithians Girls' College pupil Cameron Waldeck-Cooks, with a source revealing that her boyfriend Ethan Coetzee allegedly had access to all of her social media accounts and her mobile phone.

Rapport, a sister publication of News24, spoke to a source familiar with the matter who stated that Coetzee, 19 and a former top pupil at St Stithians Boys' College, maintained close surveillance of Cameron's online activity during their relationship.
"He had the passwords to all her social media accounts and her phone," the source told the publication.
What police found at the Sabie Guesthouse
The pair were discovered last Monday at a guesthouse owned by the Coetzee family in Sabie, Mpumalanga. Police have confirmed that Cameron died of strangulation, while a preliminary report indicates Coetzee hanged himself. A source close to the investigation told News24 that a family member cut Coetzee down and attempted to resuscitate him before authorities were called. Officers arrived to find him on the floor, surrounded by close relatives.

Coetzee's father, Graeme, was the person who found the couple's bodies at the property. He has since asked for privacy on behalf of his family and friends and declined to comment further.
Investigation at a sensitive stage
Police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo told Rapport that the investigation remains at an "advanced but sensitive stage," with no additional details to be released to protect the integrity of the probe.
"At this stage, we have the inquest and a case of murder," Masondo said.
"Further information can, of course, come to light as we investigate the case, but no additional or separate cases have been opened at this stage."
Rapport also reported that Coetzee's jealousy was a recurring concern among Cameron's social circle. He allegedly became enraged after she was perceived as being overly friendly with members of the school's rowing team. The publication further noted that Coetzee had been accepted to study at Stellenbosch University but withdrew at the last minute, reportedly unwilling to be separated from Cameron.

Cameron's brother, Ethan Waldeck-Cooks, addressed the matter publicly on his Instagram page on Friday, writing:
"My sister, Cameron Waldeck-Cooks, was found dead on Sunday, 2 August. Her body lay lifeless with injuries to various body parts. She was murdered by Ethan…"
The Coetzee family also commissioned a private forensic pathologist.
Police refuse to reveal information about Sabie Lodge deaths
Briefly News previously reported that reported that Mpumalanga police have declined to release further details about the deaths of two teenagers found in the same room at a holiday accommodation outside Sabie, citing the risk of compromising the ongoing investigation.
