A South African TikToker known as @ismaeel_syce spent an entire day on 21 July 2026 eating nothing but recreated South African prison food. He filmed the whole experience for his followers.

Filmed in a casual, mock-documentary style from his home kitchen and bedroom, the video walked viewers through three meals across the day, starting with a 7 AM breakfast, followed by lunch, and ending with a 5 PM supper. He noted that while his menu was a realistic representation, what prisoners actually receive can differ from one correctional facility to another.

Many viewers in a video by @ismaeel_syce pointed out that what he was eating was not far off from what gets served on ordinary South African dinner tables. The video clearly touched a nerve, and not in the way anyone expected. Watch the full day of prison meals below:
