Ukhozi FM DJ, Sbu Buthelezi, survives being shot during attempted hijack

Sbu Buthelezi, the Ukhozi FM DJ, was shot during an attempted hijacking on Sunday, 20 January. The radio personality survived being shot several times and it is reported that 6 bullets were found in his body.

Ukhozi FM DJ Sbu Buthelezi refused to give up his car keys in an attempted hijacking and was shot several times.

Sbu was approached by unknown men just after parking his car in the Pietermaritzburg CBD, according to a report by The Daily Sun.

They demanded his keys, but he refused and ran away, but the men ran after him and shot him several times before taking off on foot.

Briefly.co.za gathered that Sbu was shot in the arms and chest, but has been released from ICU. He said that he was saved by God.

God saved me. I was released from ICU yesterday and I’m recovering.

The DJ knew he was risking his life by refusing to give up his car keys, but felt he worked too hard for it to just let it go.

I worked too hard for this car just to give it away. That’s why I ran away and got shot.

He managed to drive while injured and made his way to a family member's home. There he lost consciousness and was quickly taken to the hospital.

Fans of the DJ took to social media to wish him a speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, a case of attempted murder will be investigated. Thembeka Mbele, police spokesperson, said the police are working tirelessly to find the suspects.
