GAUTENG — A 23-year-old woman was fatally shot during an alleged robbery in Thembisa on Monday morning, with Gauteng police now pursuing murder and robbery charges linked to the incident.

The attack took place at approximately 05:45 on 28 September 2026 on Mapungubwe Street in the Temong area of Thembisa. According to police, the victim had been on her way to work when she was ambushed and shot. Her belongings were taken during the incident.

Victim identified, family yet to be notified

Authorities have confirmed the identity of the deceased but have withheld her name pending formal notification of her next of kin.

11th women's body found

The news comes as another woman's body was found in Springs, Ekurhuleni on Sunday, 27 September 2026. According to reports, the woman was found semi-naked and appeared to have been strangled near a railway line in Springs. At approximately 12:00, SAPS Springs responded to a crime scene where a body was discovered in an open veld near Rhokana Road. A security company vehicle patrolling the area noticed the body and alerted the police.

24-year-old woman found dead

Previously, Briefly News reported that a 24-year-old woman was found dead in an informal settlement in Canelands, KwaZulu-Natal, in the early hours of Saturday, 26 September 2026, with marks on her neck consistent with suspected strangulation. Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance at approximately 03:32 and dispatched officers to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the woman's boyfriend sitting inside the room, visibly distressed and believed to be under the influence of alcohol. RUSA posted about the incident on their Facebook account.
