A short video out of Orania, a small town in the Northern Cape, caught the attention of thousands of South Africans after it was posted by the Orania Beweging on 16 September 2026.

The clip, shared by Frans de Klerk, shows a municipal street-sweeping vehicle decorated with colourful graphics and the Afrikaans slogan "Ons hou Orania skoon" — meaning "We keep Orania clean." The footage cuts to a close-up of the machine's rotating brushes working their way across a sun-drenched street, presenting a picture of orderly civic life that many viewers said they rarely see in their own towns.

The video's tone is simple and unassuming, but it struck a chord with viewers far beyond the town's borders. For a country where municipal service delivery failures are a daily frustration, the sight of a well-maintained street-cleaning machine doing its rounds felt, to many commenters, like a sharp contrast to reality.
