Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid have announced the signing of France international Ferland Mendy from Lyon and the left back is expected to be unveiled at the Bernabeu on July 1.

According to the report on UK Sun, the 24-year-old defender has signed a six-year contract for Real Madrid.

Mendy joined Lyon from Le Havre in 2017 and made 79 appearances for the Ligue 1 club in two seasons.

The versatile defender also played in every game of their Champions League run to the last-16 last season.

Real Madrid manager Zidane wants Mendy to come in to compete with Marcelo after a breakout season in Ligue 1 as the player made a total of 44 appearances across all competitions.

His arrival means that some left-backs will have to leave as Real Madrid already have Sergio Reguilon, Theo Hernandez and even Achraf Hakimi who can also play in the same wing.

Mendy however joins Belgian football star Eden Hazard who also recently joined Real Madrid in a big move from Premier League side Chelsea.
