Following their decision to rescind the appointment of Belgian manager Luc Eymael, Chippa United have now turned their guns to radio personality Robert Marawa.

The DStv Premiership side believes the seasoned sportscaster has a hidden agenda against the former Polokwane City coach.

In a strongly-worded statement, Chippa alleges that Marawa’s utterances on radio led to an uproar from the public regarding Eymael’s hiring.

This comes after the Economic Freedom Fighters have also shared their views on the 61-year-old's appointment at the Gqeberha-based club, saying chairman Siviwe Mpengesi has stunned the nation. The club said in a statement according to KickOff.com:

EFF lambasts Chippa United boss Siviwe Mpengesi for hiring Luc Eymael

"Upon the initial attempt to appoint Eymael in December 2020, there was an uproar about Chippa’s intentions to appoint an alleged racist. This was by and large caused by utterances of Robert Marawa during a sports show, which also included the continuous airing of a soundbite with a voice alleged to be that of Eymael, the source of which was not credited.
"A new challenge is now faced through the unsubstantiated, unethical and prejudicial actions of in particular Robert Marawa’s show broadcasts, which on top of Marawa himself clearly expressing bias, invited a political party and a niche union representing coaches to express their views on what are his views, including the publicly stated intention to disrupt Chippa’s upcoming fixtures.”

Meanwhile, South African football fans have also voiced their comments on this burning issue, with protecting the former SABC Sports host.

According to @89Yayas, Marawa can be a good cop too:

“Lol it’s like ta-Rob is those cops in movies who always breaks cases.”

While many are against the club’s dealing especially in the hiring of firing and axing of coaches, @Raymond43250267 said:

“He is full of himself that one. Sponsors must disinvest from his club. He is not doing them any favours.”

“Hey ta-Rob is on another level. I see the sessions with Gerry Nel are paying off. The news couldn't have come at a more opportune time. That Luc Eymael must not treat us like kids. @robertmarawa, @MarawaSportShow #MSW. Chippa went through this in December. Couldn't he find any other coach?."

Meanwhile, Briefly.co.za reported that the EFF had lambasted Mpengesi for hiring embattled Eymael as a technical director.

Mpengesi recently axed coach Dan Malesela following a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Maritzburg United in the DStv Premiership last weekend.
