In a heartwarming thread that shows many people's sense of Ubuntu that was made by a Twitter user with the handle, @zubaecious, a number of people can be seen offering some sort of help for those affected by the devastating events.
"ACCOMMODATION AND TRANSPORT HELP FOR UCT STUDENTS [Thread]. PLEASE RT. And please add anything that you know of. #UCTfire," she captioned the thread.
Read a few of responses she got below the thread:
"If you need to evacuate and you have nowhere to go, hmu. (If I know you as a person and or I can be guaranteed that you won't murder me or stalk me) I'm quite serious. I can't imagine how stressful this must be, especially if you really don't have anywhere else to go. I'm living in a big empty house rn and I really can give you a place to stay for a few days."
"Any Muslim UCT student looking for a place to stay - please DM me. Food and a lift can be arranged."
"Created a Google Maps list for the places and spaces who are offering food, shelter, support or Iftaar invites for all UCT Res Students in need: https://google.com/maps/placelists/list/6ok-FULzQYeUIWUzHicBpQ?token=u433KGdsylg. Pls share, I’ll try to keep it updated with info from the UCT SRC group. #UCTfires #capetownfires #uct"
Briefly News earlier reported that raging fire in Cape Town has caused a lot of destruction in the area. Some of the many affected are University of Cape Town students, many of whom belong to the Fuller House student residence. The Gift of the Givers organisation has stepped in to help these students.
Heading online, the organisation shared a touching and heartwarming post about how they have stepped in to provide meals for about 4k students whose student housing was affected by the fires that have plagued the area.
"#GiftOfTheGivers responds to #UniversityofCapeTown Fuller House (students' residence) fire. Our teams have responded by preparing meals for 4 000 students for this evening. UCT has requested #GiftoftheGivers to manage the feeding and other essentials for the next week" they captioned snaps of the fires.
