Kgothatso Mdunana's Family Thanks SA for Repatriation and Support

- Civil engineering student Kgothatso Mdunana died in China and her family needed funds to bring her back

- South Africans raised money for Kgothatso's repatriation and the family is thankful for all the support provided

Kgothatso Mdunana's loved ones are thanking South Africa for the support they received to bring her remains back to South Africa safely.

The family couldn't afford to bring their child back to the country following her death but generous citizens came to the rescue and helped raise the funds that were needed. R547 000 was raised by South African citizens and this is more than double what the family had hoped for.

According to a report by EWN, corporates, St Stithians College alumni were generous and donated to the cause. This helped Mdunana's family to give their child a dignified funeral back home.

Mdunana's family pleaded with South Africans to help them financially because the strain was just too much on them. She was last seen alive on 30 April by her roommate and was a civil engineering student at the Shandong University of Technology according to News24.

Speaking to EWN, Mdunana's mother Nomsa said that she was thankful to South Africa for the help they received.

"My little girl is coming back home to her home soil. thank you, God. Thank you, South Africa," said Nomsa.

Briefly News previously reported that Kgothatso Mdunana's mother and friend spoke to Briefly News in an exclusive story. "Ambitious, bubbly and intelligent" are the words used by Kgothatso Mdunana's mother to describe her 'pumpkin'.

"At 11:15 I received a missed WhatsApp call from Kgothatso's roommate. I sent her an SMS to ask her to call again. She called back and said 'Mama, there is some sad news. Kgothatso is no longer with us.'
"I asked her if she was sure. She said she will call back later but that the police had Kgothatso's phone and that they knew it was her. That is how I found out."
