Sisters Find 7-Year-Old Sibling's Body Under Bed, Man Charged With Rape and Murder

FREE STATE — Two young sisters stumbled upon a horrific scene while playing at their home in Khotha, near Bultfontein, when they noticed a hand protruding from beneath a bed. The hand belonged to their seven-year-old sister, who had been raped and strangled to death.
According to Sowetan, a 29-year-old man has since been arrested and charged with rape and murder in connection with the incident.
How the alleged attack unfolded
According to NPA Free State spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane, the suspect had been visiting a co-worker in the area when he allegedly encountered the child. He reportedly called the girl into a shack located behind a house on the same property, locked her inside, raped her, and strangled her before fleeing the scene.

The child's siblings later raised the alarm after noticing her hand sticking out from under a bed. They immediately alerted their parents, who made the grim discovery.
Suspect abandons bail in court
The accused appeared before the Bultfontein Magistrate Court on Thursday, 3 August 2026, where he abandoned his bid for bail. The case has been postponed to 29 August 2026.
8 year old girl raped and killed
In a similar incident, an eight-year-old girl was raped and killed and her body was found behind a church in Lindley, Free State. The little girl was allegedly found sexually assaulted and killed after being missing for two days. South Africans were horrified at the terrible loss and remarked on how unsafe Mzansi has become for children. A 27-year-old suspect in for questioning after a community member found the little girl's body behind a place of worship. The child allegedly left home without supervision and her mother believed she was playing with her friends.
Police hunt man who raped and killed Soweto girl
Previously, Briefly News reported that the South African Police Service called on South Africans to assist them in finding a man who allegedly raped and murdered a little girl in Soweto. The incident occurred on 21 October 2024. The little girl, who was living in Orlando, was playing outside with her friends when the suspect lured her to the backroom shack he had rented. He then allegedly raped and killed her.
