Missing Teen Found Dead in Locked Pit Toilet After Suspect Points Police to Scene

NORTH WEST - A missing person investigation near Brits took a grim turn when a 46-year-old man allegedly led police directly to the body of a 19-year-old hidden inside a locked pit toilet.
The case began on Friday, 7 August 2026, when a missing person report was filed at the Brits police station. Officers gathered information pointing to someone who had reportedly been seen with the missing teenager before he disappeared. That person of interest, Johannes Mokoena, was arrested shortly after and allegedly offered to take investigators to where the young man could be found.
Body found bound inside locked toilet
Mokoena guided police to a pit toilet located behind his shack at the R61 Rashoop informal settlement. North West police spokesperson Colonel Anne Magakoe confirmed that officers found the structure locked. When they opened it, the discovery inside was deeply disturbing.

"Upon opening it, police discovered the body of a teenage male, whose hands, legs and neck were allegedly bounded," Magakoe said.
The victim had been concealed inside the pit toilet, and the state of the body pointed to a violent death. Investigators also recovered two golf clubs at the scene, which are believed to have been used during the attack.
"Two golf clubs suspected to be used in the commission of the crime were also found and seized," Magakoe said.
Mokoena faces multiple charges
Mokoena appeared before the Brits Magistrate's Court on 11 August 2026, facing charges of murder, kidnapping and defeating or obstructing the ends of justice. He was remanded in custody and was due to return to court on 13 August 2026 for his second appearance. The news sent shockwaves through the Rashoop community.

In similar news, the community of Palmietfontein village in Sterkspruit were left with more questions than answers after the discovery of a dead body inside one of the school’s toilets. The body of an unknown teenage girl was discovered in a toilet at the Telle Junction Primary School. The body was discovered on the first day of the 2026 school year, when learners returned to school.
Missing Free State teen found dead
Briefly News also reported that the search for a missing young woman ended in tragedy after her body was found. 16-year-old Machaka Radebe from Bloemfontein in the Free State allegedly went missing on Saturday, 2 December. It was alleged that she and her brother were napping at home. The young man woke up and went to look for his sister, and when he could not find her, he called her phone. Her phone was answered by a man who allegedly demanded ransom money or else she would be killed.
