However, it was only after the police opened fire did they identify themselves as police officers.

South Africans are furious and demand justice for the slain citizen. His friends remember him as a kind and compassionate man.

@AdvoBarryRoux:

"This is Lindani Myeni the South African man from KZN who was killed by police officers in Hawaii on Wednesday. 3 armed police officers killed an innocent, unarmed, 29 year old black man."

@AdvoBarryRoux:

"The Police only identified themselves to Lindani Myeni after shooting him. It could anybody asking him to get on the ground while pointing a torchlight in his face. He had a right to defend himself. How do you shoot someone & afterwards shout "Police"."

@sheabutterhun:

"They have killed one of our own in the US. His name is #LindaniMyeni from KZN. He was unarmed. He was shot dead by the Police. We must demand @honolulupolice to release their body cam footage and complete transparency on Lindani’s murder. We need answers!#JusticeForLindaniMyeni."

@Khanyi_Magubane:

"The South African Government needs to demand answers from the US Government. The bodycam footage from the police is not convincing. Lindani was walking in the street when he was pointed out as a robber. Three cops, one man. He was not a threat to them."

Myeni was married to an American citizen, Lindsay, who is beside herself with grief at the loss of her "king".

Earlier, Briefly News reported that South African comedian Trevor Noah is upset with the justice system in the US after the death of 20-year-old Daunte Wright. Daunte was shot and killed by the police in Minnesota after an alleged traffic violation.

The young man was then shot by a police officer as he struggled to get back into his car. The officer says that they meant to tase him but ended up accidentally shooting him.

Trevor Noah has come out guns blazing and is not impressed with the authorities in America.
