South African poet Botlhale Boikanyo has scored a major milestone, landing an appointment as the UNFPA Regional ICPD Youth Champion for East and Southern Africa. She shared the news on Instagram, and the reaction from friends, fans, and followers has been nothing short of electric.
Dressed in a Max Hosa NYC ensemble for the announcement shoot, Boikanyo reflected on just how far her journey has taken her since her earliest days as a young girl who found her footing through poetry.
From poetry to global platform
In her post, Botlhale Boikanyo described the appointment not as an accolade but as a commitment, one rooted in storytelling and centred on the lived experiences of young people, particularly women and girls. She wrote:

Her work with UNFPA will see her engage youth communities across East and Southern Africa, advocate for meaningful youth participation, and champion reproductive rights, dignity, and bodily autonomy. She added:
