Sbindi Mseleku took a major step in his relationship when he officially paid lobola for his long-term partner and baby mama, Tirelo Kale, on Thursday, 3 September 2026. The ceremony, however, quickly became the talk of Mzansi for reasons beyond the celebration itself.

Fans were quick to notice that Sbindi's mother, MaYeni Mseleku, was present at the lobola negotiations — a detail that stirred debate around Zulu cultural customs and whether the family matriarch is treating the women in her sons' lives differently.

MaYeni's Attendance Raises Eyebrows

The comparisons to Mpumelelo Mseleku's situation came almost instantly. Mpumelelo paid lobola for Amahle Biyela back in July 2025, but that process was surrounded by controversy, with questions swirling about MaYeni's involvement at the time. On the latest episode of *Uthando Nes'thembu*, MaYeni herself addressed the matter, confronting her husband Musa Mseleku over being left out of Mpumelelo's lobola negotiations entirely.

This contrast has led many viewers to wonder whether MaYeni has a stronger bond with Tirelo than with Amahle. Tirelo appeared to confirm as much, speaking warmly about her relationship with her mother-in-law.

"The way she's carried me. I remember one day Mpumelelo and I were fighting and he said, 'You and I are fighting for my mum's bust.' That's the relationship I have with MaYeni," Tirelo said.

Amahle Biyela's Family Speaks Out

While Sbindi and Tirelo's union was met with congratulations from fans, Amahle's side of the family has not stayed quiet. Her aunt, Linda Biyela, voiced serious reservations about the Mseleku family's conduct throughout Amahle's pregnancy journey.

"I am a bit sceptical about the kind of people they are because they distanced themselves from Amahle and didn't allow us to go there to report the pregnancy," Linda said.

Mzansi congratulated Tirelo on the lobola ceremony while simultaneously questioning the family dynamics at play, with many noting the stark difference in how the two relationships appear to have been treated within the Mseleku household.
