Former The Mommy Club reality TV star Ratile Mabitsela has opened up about one of the most painful chapters of her life. On World Suicide Prevention Day, Thursday 10 September 2026, she shared a deeply personal account of battling depression, surviving a suicide attempt, and losing her partner to the same illness.

Ratile, a mother of three who was previously married to businessman Elias Lehlogonolo Mabitsela before his passing, wrote that she could not speak about mental health without being honest about her own experience.

"I have known depression from both sides. From battling depression myself, to loving a partner who battled it too. From surviving my own suicide attempt, to later losing my partner to suicide," she wrote. "I share this not for pity, but for awareness."

Ratile's Message to Those Who Are Struggling

In her post, Ratile emphasised that depression is not always visible, yet can become life-threatening when someone suffers without proper support. She urged followers to check in on loved ones, become a safe space, and pay attention to their own thoughts and triggers.

"Therapy, medication, prayer, meditation, and simply allowing someone else in can all form part of healing," she wrote, offering a wide and compassionate view of what recovery can look like.

She also extended her love specifically to those currently in crisis. "To anyone battling right now, especially if you are feeling suicidal, the last slide is for you," she added, referring to resources she included in the post.

Ratile closed with a tribute to those lost and those still fighting: "Today I hold space for those who attempted suicide and survived. I hold space for the lives we have lost, and for the families who continue living with that loss."
