Former Miss SA Lalela Mswane has opened up about a terrifying ordeal in which she and her sister were allegedly chased through the streets of Waterfall, Midrand, by two men after leaving Mall of Africa. The beauty queen shared the full account in a selfie-style video recorded inside a parked car, delivering her story in a visibly emotional, serious tone.
Mswane explained that the two sisters had gone out for a weekday dinner at the mall and were leaving just before 10 PM when a man approached them at the parking ticket machine. After she turned down both his requests for her number and alternative contact details, she assumed that was the end of it.
What happened outside the mall
Things turned frightening when the same man drove up and parked right beside their car. As he aggressively stepped out, Mswane reacted immediately. The sisters drove off, only to realise the man had an accomplice, and both were now in hot pursuit through the surrounding streets. She said:

"I'm panic-stricken. I'm in tears. I'm hyperventilating. I don't know what to do."
On the advice of her then close protection officer, she did not drive home but instead headed in the opposite direction, eventually stopping at an Engel & Völkers area near a Takealot collection point in Midrand to safety.
Mswane described the trauma as so severe that she and her sister could not bring themselves to drive at night for a long time afterwards. She also shared her belief that the entire episode was carefully planned. She added:
"My theory is this was long premeditated and calculated.”
The former Miss SA also noted that the man's face had been familiar when he first approached them, suggesting he had been observing them throughout the evening inside the mall before following them to the restaurant.
