DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small Celebrate Mzansi Heritage With New RocoMamas Menu

DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small are taking Heritage Month beyond the stage. The Scorpion Kings have teamed up with RocoMamas to launch a limited-edition King's Feast menu, fusing Amapiano culture with South African cuisine just weeks before their landmark Scorpion Kings Live concert at FNB Stadium on 19 September.

In exclusive interviews with Briefly News, the two artists reflected on what Amapiano's global rise means for South Africa's image abroad and why the RocoMamas collaboration felt like a natural extension of that story.

For DJ Maphorisa, Amapiano has done far more than fill dancefloors around the world.

"Amapiano has given the world a different view of South Africa. It's not just our music that people are connecting with, but our culture, language and creativity," he said. "Seeing that influence grow globally makes me very proud of where we come from."

When RocoMamas approached the duo about creating a burger inspired by their personalities and heritage, Maphorisa embraced the idea immediately, with the creation of the Madumane Double, a 200g double beef smash burger with chakalaka, chorizo and cheese on a brioche bun.

"We're used to expressing ourselves through music, so putting our personalities into food was something fresh and exciting. The collaboration is exactly the kind of partnership local brands and musicians should be pursuing together."

He also spoke about why combining food and music feels particularly powerful during Heritage Month.

"Music and food both bring people together. Combining the two gives people another way to experience and celebrate what makes South African culture unique."

Kabza De Small on staying true to your roots

Kabza De Small drew a direct line between flavour and feeling when describing his contribution to the menu. The Papta Sting, with its bold, spicy profile, mirrors his musical energy.

"The Papta Sting has that bold heat, and I think our music has the same energy; it's meant to make you feel something."

The burger features Southern fried chicken, atchar and jalapeños on a brioche bun.

He was equally passionate about using his platform to spotlight local culture.

"We have so much to be proud of, and collaborations like this help us celebrate and share our culture with more people."

For emerging artists navigating the tension between global ambition and local identity, his advice was straightforward: "Stay true to yourself and your roots. That authenticity is what makes you different, and people around the world connect with that."

Looking ahead to the FNB Stadium concert, Kabza said the RocoMamas partnership adds another dimension to what fans can experience.

"Fans can celebrate the Scorpion Kings through both the music and the food, leading up to the FNB Stadium concert," he explained. "I hope they enjoy the food and feel proud of what it represents. It's a celebration of our culture, our music and how far we've come."
