Xolile Tshabalala and Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa are set to return in the second season of Blood Legacy, with both reprising their roles in the highly anticipated drama. The new season lands on the streaming platform on 25 September.
Speaking to Sowetan ahead of the premiere, Tshabalala offered a glimpse into what viewers can expect from her character Khanyi Adesina. Season one tracked Khanyi's personal journey, but season two pushes her into far more turbulent territory. The character has spent her life fighting for the people she loves, yet that fierce devotion has quietly taken its toll.
Khanyi's biggest test yet
Tshabalala described the new season as a defining period for Khanyi, one that will force her to confront the cost of caring too deeply. She explained, adding that the pressure placed on the character in season two will either break her or forge something stronger:

Mlotshwa, who plays Gabisile Ndlovu, said her character continues to be driven by a fierce need to shield her family. The actress also revealed that she wove elements of her own personality into the role to make Gabisile feel more grounded and human. For her, the experience reinforced the value of empathy over judgment, a reminder that the people around us are often carrying burdens we cannot see.
Tshabalala on career longevity
Beyond the show itself, Tshabalala reflected on what has sustained her long career in the South African entertainment industry. She said the key has been a deliberate choice to seek out roles that challenge her rather than retreating to comfortable, familiar territory. She also cautioned actors against measuring their success against younger performers or peers, noting that every career follows its own path.

Both actresses also touched on the need for South African storytelling to broaden its scope. Tshabalala pointed out that the country holds countless untold stories, across politics, spirituality and beyond, and urged the industry to resist the temptation of simply repeating whatever formula has worked before.
As for what lies ahead personally, Mlotshwa said she is focused on realising dreams she has carried since childhood, content to let those ambitions take shape in their own time.
