A woman named Obie Mavuso has gone public with claims that she and Married at First Sight South Africa star Esethu Seku were once romantically involved, alleging that Seku's relationship with social media was ultimately what drove them apart.

Seku, 32, is currently on the third season of the Mzansi Magic reality show, where she has been matched with Prince Masuku. The show has kept her in the public eye, which may be exactly what prompted Mavuso to speak up.

Before addressing Seku directly, Mavuso reflected on her own marriage in the TikTok video, which went viral. She described carrying the financial load during what turned out to be a short marriage, only for her then-husband's attitude to shift once he secured employment. She also alleged that he ran a smear campaign against her in 2017 that damaged her reputation. Mavuso said she eventually picked herself up and finalised her divorce in 2018.

It was against this backdrop that she said her connection with Seku began.

Watching Seku navigate relationships on MAFS reportedly brought everything back for Mavuso, who said she recognised a clear pattern in the reality star's behaviour.

"She likes going for people who have been divorced. She likes actually thinking that she can save people that she considers misunderstood," Mavuso added.

Mavuso said she genuinely cared about Seku and had also grown attached to her child. The tension, she claimed, came down to Seku's need for online validation. Whenever Mavuso asked her not to post about their relationship on Twitter, Seku would pull back emotionally.

"I liked her and everything, but she lives for validation from her fans on social media. Every time I would tell her, 'Don't post us on Twitter,' she would feel some type of way," she said.

Mavuso alleged that this would trigger the silent treatment and that setting any kind of boundary made things worse. "When I would enforce a boundary and tell her, 'Please don't do this,' she would go and post, trying to win sympathy from people," she said.

The video split viewers, with some engaging with her claims about Seku and others noticing that Mavuso mentioned a book towards the end of the clip.
