Lekompo star Lehlogonolo "Shebeshxt" Chauke made another push for freedom on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, when he appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate's Court to mount a second bail application based on what his legal team describes as new facts.
His new lawyer, Advocate Mutheiwana Sikhwari, read an affidavit on Chauke's behalf, revealing that the defence had commissioned a forensic ballistics specialist, Dr Christo de Klerk, to compile a report they believe is substantial enough to overturn the repeated rejections Chauke has faced since his arrest in November 2025.
Shebeshxt claims he was set up
Speaking through the affidavit read by Sikhwari, Chauke was unequivocal about his innocence.

"I would like to make it clear that there was never a shooting incident between me and the said Petrus Ralefatane and any other person on 19 October 2025 or any other date. I was not involved in the alleged shooting incident. It just never happened, and I am being framed for the incident which was never committed," the affidavit read.
Sikhwari argued that De Klerk should be allowed to testify, and that his report constituted new evidence permissible as hearsay during bail proceedings. The defence also maintained that the State's case was far from airtight.
"The State does not have a strong case against my client. We submit that the evidence does not link him to the alleged shooting," Sikhwari told the court.
The defence further argued that Chauke's version of events deserved consideration when the court assessed whether sufficient new facts had been presented to justify a fresh bail application, rather than treating the motion as a continuation of his previous failed attempts.

Bail postponed as charges mount
State Prosecutor Kgaogelo Lokoloane was granted a postponement to 8 October to work through the 133-page affidavit before responding.
Chauke was originally arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly firing at a motorist with an unlicensed firearm in Ladanna in October 2025. The same incident also resulted in charges of malicious damage to property and possession of an unlicensed firearm. Since his initial arrest, the charges against him have ballooned to 21 in total.
Multiple bail applications have been turned down by the magistrate's court, with subsequent appeals also failing at the Polokwane division of the Limpopo High Court.
Chauke has now been incarcerated for close to a year. While his fans initially campaigned loudly for his release, that energy has since quietened, with critics increasingly arguing that his own behaviour led him to where he is now.
