Mzansi fans were left clutching their chests on Wednesday after entertainment journalist Phil Mphela dropped a cryptic video on X that had many convinced he was waving goodbye to his beloved podcast.

The clip, shared on 7 October 2026, shows Mphela seated on a pink couch in what appears to be the cosy indoor studio of the Read the Room podcast, speaking into a "Chillers Punch"-branded microphone against a vivid pink and orange abstract backdrop. The show's logo appears as a watermark throughout. The moment that set tongues wagging, however, was not the setting but the caption Mphela slapped onto the post:

Mphela, clearly aware of the storm he had stirred, followed up with a second post urging people to pump the brakes.

"Watch the episode before responding, and you will see where this is coming from 🫣. Trust. You will understand why I am saying this and how we got here. #ReadTheRoom drops at 8 PM tonight," he wrote.

“Is he insulting MacG? After saying he will never like him as a person?”

Whether Mphela's dramatic post was a genuine tease of a behind-the-scenes moment or simply masterful audience bait ahead of a new episode, he made one thing abundantly clear: watch before you react.
