The alleged final resting places for late Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy "Lulu" Muteke, have been confirmed, with the couple set to be buried side by side on Thursday, 8 October 2026.

Photographs of the burial site showed workers putting the finishing touches on the graves ahead of the proceedings. The couple will be interred at the granite-clad Royal Graves at Sahwira Glenforest Memorial Park in Harare.

A tragedy that shook Zimbabwe

Chivayo and Muteke died on Wednesday, 30 September, when the helicopter they were travelling in came down at Kudenga Farm in the Marondera Rural area. The pair had been returning from their home when the aircraft crashed. Everyone on board perished, including two pilots and a security aide.

Briefly News previously reported that the families would proceed with the burials without the couple's heads, which were never recovered. Given the extreme state of the remains, the family decided against a public body viewing at any point during the funeral proceedings.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, 7 October, conducted by Vapostori clergy. Chivayo's coffin was wrapped in the Zimbabwean flag following President Emmerson Mnangagwa's decision to award him Provincial Hero status. The tragedy drew formal condolences from several African heads of state and international governments.

Chivayo was a widely recognised philanthropist known for his flamboyant, high-profile generosity. He regularly gifted brand-new luxury vehicles, homes, and large sums of cash to musicians, church leaders, public figures, and supporters across Zimbabwe and South Africa. On social media, he built a substantial following by sharing images of designer clothes, private jets, stacks of US dollars, and a collection of high-end supercars.
