A South African man known as @sbalcool_k posted a TikTok video about his side hustle. He mows lawns with his own machine and shared his earnings on 7 August 2026.

Breaking down the costs

He said he bought his grass-cutting machine for R2,500 to start. Five litres of petrol usually costs him around R150 for each job. Gloves cost him R15 and safety goggles cost another R15 as well. Small cutting wires for the machine cost him about R40 extra each time. He made R600 after using only half of his five-litre supply. The remaining fuel could bring in about R700 from more garden work. He urged unemployed South Africans to buy their own machine and hustle.
