A young woman from Limpopo decided to put a popular belief to the test. Could a woman look and feel her absolute best on just R500? TikTok user @maakemohlao from Tzaneen, in the Mopani district, said yes and set out to prove it on 9 August 2026. The "Baddie on a Budget" series was born from a simple idea: you do not have to wait until you are wealthy to look your best. Starting her transformation as the sun was going down, she made smart decisions from the very beginning.

Rather than booking a nail appointment, she installed her own stick-on nails and toenails using press-ons ordered from Shein, choosing open-toe heels to show them off. The full look covered lashes, hair, nails and toenails, all within her R500 limit. By the time she was done, she had not just pulled off the look. She had done it with money to spare, saving R129 from her original budget.
The transformation, filmed against the warm glow of a late afternoon sky in Tzaneen, captured the kind of effort that turns heads without draining a bank account. She reflected that the series was always meant to be an experiment, a way to show other women that looking good is about creativity and resourcefulness, not how much you spend.
