A chilling dashcam video filmed on a busy South African highway near the Heidelberg interchange went viral on 15 August 2026 after it captured the danger of rocks being thrown at moving vehicles. The footage, posted by X user @Kgadi_yaMoloto, showed ordinary traffic conditions on the highway before the terrifying incident unfolded.

The clip was filmed from inside a moving vehicle and showed trucks, cars and an overpass in what appeared to be a routine commute. The visible electronic sign referencing "Heidelberg I/C" placed the incident on a stretch of road used daily by thousands of commuters travelling between Alberton and areas further east of Johannesburg.

The video by Kgadi_yaMoloto immediately struck a nerve because rock throwing on South African highways is not new, and it has claimed lives. One commenter pointed out that a woman had recently been killed in a similar attack when a rock smashed through her windscreen and struck her.

The problem has persisted along various routes around Gauteng, and drivers who use those roads regularly say the fear is very real.
