A South African man named Jannie Kruger had his faith in people fully restored after an online appeal for help turned into something he never saw coming.
Kruger posted a video asking for donations to fund a choir tour. He was not expecting the response that followed. Within 24 hours, South Africans had come together in such numbers that his fundraising goal was reached. On 6 September 2026, he filmed a heartfelt update from home to share the news.
Filmed in a casual, selfie-style directly to camera near his kitchen, Kruger could barely contain his emotion. He said he genuinely did not expect to receive so many donations, and gave all his thanks to God first before turning to his supporters.
"I really never, never imagined that in 24 hours of me posting that video, I'd received so many. Thank you to everyone that donated and watched the content and shared the videos."

He also promised to document the tour experience once it happens, so that every person who contributed could see exactly what their generosity made possible.
On Jannie Kruger’s BackaBuddy campaign page, he explained that he was raising funds to take part in a national choir tour with the NWU Choir from 24 September to 2 October. He said he was especially excited to participate in the renowned Kuesta Music Festival, adding:
“I am super excited to be a part of this tour, seeing as we are partaking in the renowned Kuesta Music Festival.”

What struck many who watched the update was how quickly the country mobilised. Kruger noted that it was not just donations that moved him, but the shares, the views, and the people who spread the word even when they could not give financially.
In his caption, he wrote:
"Thank you guys so much. Thank you. I'm grateful. I cannot express how grateful I am to you all!! I will definitely make a tour video so that everyone who donated can see what they helped me get to experience."
