Sarah Hodgson was still away when workers from a demolition company arrived at the property and tore it down. What made the situation worse was that a neighbour noticed something was wrong while the work was in progress.

Why was her home demolished?

The demolition was carried out in error. Her home had been targeted instead of a different property. She approached the demolition crew and tried to alert them that they had the wrong house. The workers refused to stop or listen to what she was saying, and pressed on until nothing was left.

Hodgson only discovered the full extent of what had happened when she returned from her trip. Speaking about the incident, she described herself as furious. She said the property held deep sentimental value as it had been in her family for years, making the loss far more than just a structural one.

The case, originally reported by NY Post, raises serious questions about how demolition companies verify addresses and confirm the correct property before beginning work. A neighbour's warning was dismissed, and no checks were made in time to save the home. At the time of reporting, it was not clear whether Hodgson had taken legal action against the company or whether any compensation had been offered.
