A Cape Town woman has silenced every excuse anyone has ever made about age and sport. Margaret Hunt-Kemp, 79, claimed the World Masters Squash Championship title in Perth, Australia, on 8 September 2026, winning the Women's 75+ division final against France's Claire Bryars in straight games.
For Margaret, the victory was years in the making. She had competed at previous World Masters Championships, each time finishing just short of the podium's top step. In Perth, she finally got there.
South Africa's golden day in Perth
Margaret was not the only South African flying the flag in Australia. Karen Blom took gold in the Women's 45+ category, while Stan Voges claimed the Men's 70+ crown. South Africa walked away from the tournament with three world champions.
