Mark Zuckerberg has added a centuries-old Irish castle to his property portfolio. The Meta CEO and his wife, Priscilla Chan, purchased Strancally Castle, a sprawling 19th-century estate situated in County Waterford, Ireland.
The estate spans 440 acres and includes at least 11 bedrooms, four tower suites, a library and a grand dining hall. The reported price sits somewhere between $23 million and $35 million (approximately R430 million to R644 million), though neither figure has been officially confirmed.
A spokesperson for Zuckerberg confirmed the purchase, saying Mark and his family look forward to caring for the historic home and visiting when they travel to Ireland, where Meta maintains its international headquarters.
Zuckerberg joins a growing trend
Buying Irish castles is becoming something of a pastime for tech billionaires. In 2021, John Collison, the billionaire co-founder of payments company Stripe, reportedly paid around $23 million (roughly R430 million) for the 11-acre Abbey Leix estate in County Laois.

For Zuckerberg, Strancally Castle is simply the newest addition to an already impressive collection of properties. He owns a compound in Hawaii, a $200 million (approximately R3.7 billion) mansion in Miami, and a home near Washington DC's Naval Observatory.
