A South African woman is calling on citizens to take matters into their own hands after alarming figures about missing women in Kempton Park surfaced online. On 16 September 2026, TikToker @_powerfullymindful_ posted a selfie-style video urging followers to join a community-run Facebook group dedicated to tracking missing women in the area.

On 14 September, SAPS disclosed that 17 women had been reported missing in the Kempton Park area since January 2026. Thirteen were located and safely reunited with their families. The status of the remaining four was not clarified.
The TikToker cited a large figure she had come across, but official reports confirm 17 women went missing in Kempton Park. She described the situation as "beyond shocking," adding that it felt as though citizens were being left to do the work themselves. A community member named Denise had already taken the initiative by creating the "Missing Women Kempton Park and Surrounding Areas" Facebook group to help coordinate efforts on the ground.
The video also highlighted broader concerns about data reliability in the Ekurhuleni area. Action Society pointed to dangerous gaps in crime data and local policing that may be obscuring the true scale of the problem.
