A TikTok creator has sparked a heated cookware debate online after posting a side-by-side comparison of two pot ranges from Checkers and Woolworths that look nearly identical on the shelf.

The video, posted on 3 October 2026 by @pov.thehomeedit, tackled a question many South African shoppers have likely asked themselves: why pay more for the Woolworths pots when the cheaper option looks exactly the same?

What sets the two ranges apart

Filmed in a home kitchen, the creator unpacked both ranges and used on-screen comparison graphics to break down the differences. Both the Woolworths Oslo range and the Checkers Amelia range share a similar shape, colour and overall aesthetic, and both use an aluminium body. But that is where the similarities end.

According to the TikToker, the Oslo range comes with a ceramic non-stick coating. The Amelia range does not. That single difference means shoppers are buying two completely different cooking surfaces, even though the pots could easily pass for the same product in store. She said:

"This is why I don't think you should shop for cookware with your eyes only, cause a pot can look like another pot without the same performance. Always read the product description."

The video drew 139 comments, with South Africans sharing strong opinions on her page about their own experiences with both ranges:

@Motlale said:

"Non-stick pots are toxic regardless of the manufacturer. Stainless steel and cast iron are safe and healthy."

@IamHunadi shared:

"Guys my heart is bleeding seeing this, I bought same pots from @home, they are burning and they turned brown outside, I called them but unfortunately they said there's nothing they could do, I paid 4.5 for 4 of them."

@dani mnguni added:

"I bought the Checkers pots yesterday and used it, it's non stick."

The comment section made clear that no single brand has won over every shopper. The creator's core message, however, resonated widely: do not judge a pot by its looks alone.
