A narrow, two-storey house in Mfuleni, Cape Town, had South Africa doing a double take after a TikTok video of the unusual structure went viral on 30 September 2026. TikToker @teedolty posted the clip, which showed a slender home with concrete stairs climbing the outside of the building to reach the upper level. Decorative pillars supported an elevated front porch, giving the house a distinctive look that stopped scrollers mid-swipe.

What makes the Mfuleni house so striking

The structure's design is what divided the internet. Most homes in Cape Town's townships are built as single-level dwellings, so the sight of exposed outdoor stairs climbing to a second floor on such a compact plot had viewers questioning every decision made during construction. Some thought the layout made perfect sense, while others were convinced something had gone badly wrong in the planning.

Several commenters confirmed they recognised the house from their daily routines, saying they had walked past it many times without fully processing what they were looking at. The discussion quickly grew into a mix of architectural debate, local pride and genuine confusion.
