A Benoni family finally said goodbye to their daughter on 8 August 2026, three months after her horrific murder left them in agonising limbo.
Palesa Sediso, a 27-year-old mother of two, was last seen alive on 1 May 2026 when she left home with a male acquaintance. Days later, a waste recycler discovered her mutilated torso in an open field in the Kingsway area of Benoni, Gauteng. Police searches that followed uncovered additional body parts in a nearby drainage system, all of which were submitted for forensic DNA testing to confirm her identity.
The results took months. Throughout that time, her family could not bury her.
A painful decision to say goodbye
When the DNA confirmation finally came through, some of Palesa's remains were still unaccounted for. Her family chose not to wait any longer. They laid her to rest on 8 August 2026, determined to give her a dignified farewell and begin their long road to healing.

GBV activist group Women for Change paid tribute to Palesa on social media, writing:
"Rest in Power, Queen. We are heartbroken by the loss of yet another beautiful soul. How many more women must lose their lives before this country starts treating femicide with the urgency it deserves? When is enough, enough?"
The South African Police Service transferred the murder investigation to provincial detectives. No arrests have been made.
