Trevor Nyakane, the double Rugby World Cup-winning Springbok prop, reminded South Africa why he is the ultimate team vibe-keeper — and this time, it had nothing to do with rugby.

The 37-year-old shared a clip on Instagram on 11 September 2026, filmed inside a gym by @mr_mbonambi. In it, the Sharks front-rower is caught pulling off a set of energetic dance moves in his gym clothes, completely in his element. He only clocks the camera at the last moment, breaking into a wide grin and a laugh that says it all.

The video struck a chord far beyond rugby fans. People were moved by the unfiltered joy of a man who has been through one of the hardest stretches of his career, celebrating his little girl's birthday with everything he had.

Nyakane suffered a severe Achilles tendon rupture during a URC match against the Bulls in early 2025, which required major reconstructive surgery and kept him off the field for an extended period. He has spoken openly about his desire to return to fitness and finish his career on his own terms.

Known as "Pumba" to teammates, Nyakane has long been credited by Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus as a key morale driver in the squad. The birthday video was simply that side of him, on full display, for the world to see.
