Doja Cat has cemented her place in music history after becoming the first female rapper ever to have 10 songs surpass one billion streams each on Spotify — a feat that has set the internet ablaze.
The announcement was shared by Pop Crave on X on Thursday, 10 September, and immediately sent fans into a frenzy. The milestone puts Doja in a league entirely her own, outpacing every female rapper who came before her on the world's biggest streaming platform.

For South African fans, the achievement carries a little extra weight. Born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini in Los Angeles, Doja Cat is the daughter of South African actor Dumisani Dlamini, best known for his role in the film *Sarafina!* That bloodline has always made her a source of quiet pride for Mzansi.
Her music career has straddled the line between pop and hip-hop, drawing in listeners from both camps and building a streaming catalogue that is difficult to rival. That crossover appeal, however, is also what stirred the pot online.
Mzansi and Fans React to the Record
Not everyone was ready to hand over the crown without debate. Several users questioned the nature of her catalogue, with some suggesting her billion-stream songs lean more pop than rap.
@Taoloard1 asked: "How many does she feature 🤔"
@erictooskinnyy was unambiguous in his praise, writing: "Officially the queen of rap"
@Rapper_Chadeau took a dig at another fanbase in the process: "I thought Nicki would have achieved this the way her rabid fans always throw up those fossil aged records she made. 😵💫😩"
@pupsserafim referenced rival rapper Nicki Minaj's fans with a pointed: "ONIKA TANKEDDDD"
@MiOetty14831 saw the drama coming from a mile away: "Watch a certain fanbase insert their fave into this unprovoked lol"
@deletingoneday was not quite convinced by the rap label, writing: "and I bet there all pop songs girl bye"
Whether her billion-stream songs are rap, pop, or somewhere in between, the numbers do not lie. Ten songs, each with over a billion plays, is a barrier no female rapper has cleared before — and Doja Cat got there first.
