TEHRAN, IRAN— The Iranian government has allegedly denied President Donald Trump’s claims that the Iranian government approached him for a ceasefire. This was after the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran on 28 February 2026.
According to The Kobeissi Letter, Iran’s Foreign Ministry responded after Trump alleged that the government asked for a ceasefire. The Ministry reportedly said that Trump’s claims of a ceasefire are false and baseless.

Tehran reportedly stated that it did not initiate a ceasefire for peace. This is despite Trump stating that an end to the war is near.
What did Trump say about the ceasefire?
The White House posted Trump’s statements on its @WhiteHouse X account. Quoting his Truth Social account, Trump said that Iran’s new regime leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, whom he referred to as being less radicalised and more intelligent than his predecessors, asked the US for a ceasefire. He said that the alleged request for a ceasefire will only be considered if the Strait of Hormuz is open, free, and clear.

Trump has made conflicting statements about the conflict in the Middle East. He initially stated that the operation was launched to prevent Iran from building nuclear weapons. He also said that the US bombed Iran’s last nuclear site. This was despite former senior US officials saying that Iran was not a threat to the United States.

Netizens weigh in
Social media commentators were confused by the reports coming from Washington and Tehran.
LOLAllOut said:
“This is like a never-ending TV series. We, common people, are the ones who suffer when prices go up because of all this tension.”
Crypto Intel Plug observed:
“So the White House said Tehran blinked. Tehran says they didn’t. Either the president is spinning a private backchannel that never existed, or Iran is publicly walking back its own offer to save face.”
Buchyke remarked:
“One side says they’re asking for a ceasefire, and the other calls it false and baseless. In conflicts like this, information is part of the battlefield too.”
Esther Oluwole said:
“Hard to see a path to a real ceasefire when both sides are so far apart on the narrative. Claims of requests for peace are meaningless if they’re followed by continuous strikes. We need actual diplomacy, not just public posturing.”
Iran says trust level with US is at 0
In a related article, Briefly News reported that Iran stated that its trust level with the United States is at zero. The Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the Iranian government received direct messages from the US.
Araghchi said in an interview that Iran was willing to continue the fight despite Trump’s threats. Trump threatened to target power plants if the Strait of Hormuz was not opened.
