SOUTH AFRICA — National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader Fadiel Adams, appearing before the Madlanga Commission on 19 August 2026, openly acknowledged that his social media behaviour bears no resemblance to how he conducts himself in formal proceedings, telling the chairperson to disregard his online persona entirely. He appeared after his testimony was postponed.

During questioning on his public statements and attitude toward the commission, Adams delivered a candid address to Chairperson Mbuyiseli Madlanga, drawing a firm line between his conduct on social media and his presence before the inquiry.

"Chairperson, yes. I am here. I arrived early at my own expense twice. I take this commission very seriously. I'm very respectful of this commission. Forget what I say on social media; that's me acting like a fool all the time. But when I address you, I want you to understand something. You're the only man besides my father who's ever given me a beating. That's how much you speak for this commission," Adams told the chairperson.

The remarks came as commissioners pressed him on the contrast between his erratic online commentary and his stated level of respect for the inquiry's authority.

Madlanga presses Adams on delayed statement

Despite Adams' assurances, Chairperson Madlanga did not accept his account without scrutiny. The chairperson questioned how Adams could have repeatedly missed or overlooked formal email correspondence from the commission regarding allegations against him, correspondence that contributed to significant delays in submitting his official statement.

The exchange placed Adams in a difficult position, as his claim of taking the commission seriously appeared to conflict with the documented pattern of non-responsiveness to official communication from the inquiry. Adams, a public official and member of the party led by Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie, did not offer a satisfactory explanation for the delays, leaving his credibility on the matter in question before the commission.
