NORTHERN CAPE— Tributes have poured in for Carla Engelbrecht, the woman whose body was found in a freezer in Upington, Northern Cape, on 31 March 2026. Missing Persons South Africa called for justice for Engelbrecht.
According to IOL, the organisation said that those who are responsible for her death must be held accountable. Investigators are attempting to piece together the events that led to Engelbrecht’s discovery.
Where was Engelbrecht found?
Engelbrecht’s husband filed a missing persons report that she vanished earlier in the morning. The South African Police Service launched a manhunt and mobilised units. The police searched the property, and they found her in a freezer in a storage area. An autopsy will be conducted to determine how Engelbrecht died.

According to Missing Persons South Africa, Engelbrecht was discharged on Monday after she attempted suicide the night before. Her husband discovered her after her attempt and called for medical help. A relative said the family was devastated and described Carla as kind and caring, and called for the police to uncover what happened.
