WESTERN CAPE - Floyd Shivambu has gone public about a theft incident at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, in which a thief broke into his hired vehicle and made off with multiple high-value items.
Shivambu, the Afrika Mayibuye Movement President, disclosed the incident on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, 6 August, stating that the theft occurred ahead of his attendance at an internal Mayibuye Councillor candidates’ verification meeting.
A travel bag, handbag and backpack were taken from the vehicle. Among the stolen items were a MacBook Pro, two iPads, watches, personal identity cards, bank cards and other personal belongings.

Case opened at Table Bay Harbour Police Station
A case was registered with the South African Police Service at Table Bay Harbour Police Station on the same day, under reference number CAS 9/8/2026. Shivambu also noted that other victims were at the station reporting similar crimes when he arrived to file his case.
Footage of the alleged thief was retrieved by the V&A Waterfront's security control room and handed to SAPS. Shivambu published the images alongside his post, calling for the suspect's arrest and the recovery of the stolen property.
"We hope the culprits will be arrested and the stolen items recovered," he wrote, adding, "We soldier on, and no amount of distraction will stop our march towards victory. No retreat."
Shivambu’s post sparks mixed reactions online
The post drew varied responses, with some noting that crime affected everyone. @prince_mokotedi expressed support, writing:
"Hope the criminals are apprehended and the assets retrieved, my President. Mayibuye will deal decisively with crime at the local level, come 04 November 2026."

Not all responses were sympathetic.
