GAUTENG - CCTV footage showing a woman being seized and forced into a vehicle in broad daylight has sparked a debate online.
The video, which has gone viral on social media, was shared by anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee and has triggered alarm across social media.
The video was shared two days after 26-year-old attorney Alex van Heerden was abducted shortly after arriving home in an Uber from News Café in Rosebank. Armed suspects forced her into a white Renault hatchback as she exited the Uber. Van Heerden was rescued unharmed the following evening (Thursday, 6 August) in Vosloorus.

Mayfair kidnapping captured on camera
In the footage, a dark-coloured SUV could be seen pulling over to allow passengers to get out. Another vehicle can be seen pulling up behind it, before a man jumped out and grabbed a woman from the car in front.
The surveillance clip shows no visible panic from those in the immediate vicinity, a detail that drew significant attention in the comments section. At the time of publication, no official police statement had been released confirming the identities of those involved or the circumstances surrounding the abduction.
South Africans demand action on kidnappings
The clip drew a lot of comments from South Africans who were shocked by the apparent casualness of the abduction.

Police trace missing teen's vehicle
In related news, police traced the vehicle believed to have been central to 17-year-old Sarah Rose Starrett's disappearance.
Briefly News reported that Starrett was last seen in Blanco, George, on 19 July after a scheduled visit with her biological mother.
She failed to return to her foster home, where she had lived for the past five years, by the agreed 16:00 deadline.
