City of Johannesburg mayoral candidate Ntsiki Mazwai has publicly criticised activist Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma for consulting with AfriForum in establishing her legal advocacy group, the SA First Forum, sparking a heated debate online.

Ngobese-Zuma, who leads the March and March movement, defended her meetings with AfriForum as purely consultative. Speaking with EWN, she explained that she is studying the organisation’s advocacy methods, legal strategies, and institutional structure to help shape the SA First Forum, emphasising that the engagement is not a political alliance or formal partnership.

Briefly News reported on AfriForum’s Kallie Kriel's eagerness to meet with Ngobese-Zuma and her team, describing the engagement as part of AfriForum's broader history of building relationships with fellow South Africans.

Ntsiki Mazwai raises questions about AfriForum's history

Unimpressed by the explanation, Mazwai took to her X page on 18 August and pointed out what she views as a major oversight in Ngobese-Zuma's approach, questioning how she could seek guidance from the group.

"I wonder if she knows that those farms of the Afriforum people are stolen land from the natives," Ntsiki wrote, referring to longstanding criticisms regarding land ownership and wealth accumulation in South Africa.

This is not the first time the two have locked horns. Mazwai has repeatedly challenged Ngobese-Zuma on social media, previously calling out her stance on immigration and accusing her of exaggerating statistics to fuel her campaign, criticisms Ngobese-Zuma has largely chosen to ignore.

"Let's not be selective in our reasoning; some of the clothes you wear, cars you drive are from our former colonisers. The food you eat is from the very same farms. Start your boycott and stop with the grandstanding."
