Terrifying Limpopo Farm Robbery: 67-Year-Old Farmer Tied Up as Gunmen Raid Safe

LIMPOPO — Four armed suspects robbed a farm in the Musina policing area on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, tying up a 67-year-old farmer and making off with five firearms, two microscopes, two cellphones and an undisclosed sum of cash before escaping in the victim's vehicle.
The incident unfolded at approximately 12:10 when an unknown male entered the farmhouse and confronted the owner in the living room, pointing a firearm at him and demanding money and weapons. The farmer was bound with a cable tie.

How the robbery unfolded
Shortly after the initial confrontation, a second armed suspect entered the home alongside a female worker from the property, followed by two more armed men. The group forced the victims into a bedroom while they searched for the key to a safe on the premises.

Once they gained access to the safe, the suspects removed five firearms. They also took two microscopes worth approximately R20,000, two cellphones valued at around R17,300 and cash, including money taken from the female worker's room.
The victims were then locked inside the bedroom. The suspects left the scene driving the farm owner's white Toyota Hilux 2.8 GD-6, a vehicle valued at approximately R300,000. Law enforcement later recovered the bakkie abandoned in the Mapani area, close to a railway line.
Victims freed themselves before alerting police
The farmer and the female worker managed to break free from their restraints and escaped the locked room through the bathroom door. They subsequently alerted police, who opened a case of house robbery.
SAPS Musina has since launched a formal investigation into the incident. The investigating officer, Sergeant Jimmy Rambuwani, is leading the case.
