Crafford alleges he was beaten by police
Crafford made a brief appearance in court with visible bruises on his face, alleging that police assaulted him during or following his arrest. A similar allegation was previously made by Jamal Meyer, the second suspect arrested in the case, who also claimed to have been beaten by officers. Neither allegation has been confirmed by authorities.
Both men, along with Regan Collis, appeared in court over a double murder and subsequent ambush that took place on 7 August 2026 in Reiger Park. Two women, Jaydin Magerman and Roleen Lessing, were shot dead before Anti-Gang Unit officers Thapelo Tlomatsane and Sphiwe Sibeko were ambushed and killed when they reported to the scene. Their R5 rifles were stolen during the attack.
All three men will appear in court on 25 August 2026 for a formal bail application.
